Website for the Original Carolina Shores Development

The Carolina Shores Quilt Guild

I have been unable to maintain this website for months because of personal problems and more than a 1,300 percent increase in use of my personal website, www.okeefes.org. My marine photos are in high demand. I provide specimens to universities, aquaria and museums. I cannot do more. Henceforth I will only be able to cover the Quilt Guild. If someone volunteers to help, this site could include more than the Quilt Guild. Hopefully the POA website meets your needs. Meanwhile, I will continue to post photos from the Quilt Guild on this site, on www.okeefes.org, and on www.okeefes.info. Jo O'Keefe

Officers

Nancy Sneska - president; Lucy Timmerman - vice president; Loretta Ebanks - vice president; Judy Harrington - vice president; Bonnie Reinecke - secretary; Ruth Radcliffe - treasurer.

The Carolina Shores Quilt Guild is 20 years old this year! In 1985 a small group of ladies who shared the love of quilting formed this group to share ideas and improve their techniques. Today there are about 50 members consisting of both beginners and experienced quilters.

The Quilt Guild meets the second Friday of every month except July and August at the POA clubhouse from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The business meeting is followed by a workshop, demonstration or lecture.

In addition to our regular meetings, members also can attend various outings. One get-together is a reciprocity arrangement with the Oak Island Beach Quilters. Several years ago they invited our Guild for lunch and a meeting to share ideas. The relationship has continued. This year we will host them for lunch at our regular May meeting. Show and Tell is always a high-light at all of these events.

Members also have the opportunity to attend Quilt Shows. There will be a show in June by a Wilmington, NC, quilt guild. There are others also within our general area.

One of the service projects in which the Guild is involved is making quilts for the children who stay at Ronald McDonald House in Durham while undergoing treatment at Duke University Hospital. See specific information about the number of items donated below under the June 9, 2006 heading in the second Quilt Guild webpage.
